Srirangam

I basically belong to a place called Srirangam in Tiruchirapalli distric in the state of Tamil nadu but now settled at Bangalore.I would like to share a few things about my place Srirangam. This place Srirangam is a small island between the two rivers The Cauvery(which is called as the Akanda cauvery as it is the broadest when it flowing in this place) and the river Kollirone or Kollidam. It's a beautiful place full sanctity and the first and the most important of all places among the 108 Divyadesams or the vishnu templesof the Vaishnavites or the Vishnu believers. People flow in hundrends each day to visit the big temple of Lord Ranganatha who is called as the Palli konda Perumal. The temple covers an area of 156 acres and it has got seven enclosures. Here the Lord Ranganatha is sleeping on the bed made by Aadiseshan or the seven headed serpent ,facing towards the south with his head towards the west and his legs towards the east. The wife of Lord Renganatha the presiding Goddess is Thayar as she is called, which means the mother is seperately behind in the northern end of the temple, is Padi Thanda Pathni as she doesnt come out of her sanctum sanctorium even on processions.Only Lord Renganatha comes out on processions on different Vahans during festivals. The devotees thronge out here to watch the procession of the Lord.

It is said that Lord Renganatha is a suyambu or self-manifested God. It is also said that the main Golden Gopura or the Vimana keeps on growing and the lord Vishnu's sculpture there is also growing day by day and when his feet is seen the Kali Yuga will get over.
